soccer

you’ve started playing soccer at the YMCA on saturday mornings. the first day you were a little shy about playing. it was a big gym and the were lots of kids there. once you got into it you did great. running fast and kicking the ball at the net. as a group you and the other 4 kids on your team decided to name your team the webslingers. a nickname for the superhero, spiderman. i’m not sure if this is the official name or the unofficial name because on your game schedule you’re on the red team. the second practice was last week. and tomorrow is your first game. your teacher, janelle, is making a special appearance at the game, which you are very excited about. i’ll have to bring the video camera. i just love watching you try new things while having fun. good luck with the game. bend it like beckham.

bowling

a new something to do on the weekends. bowling. all of us went bowling this morning. you lasted five out of ten frames. or half a game. you were having fun rolling the big six pound ball down the lane until you decided it was taking too long. checking out the toy vending machines was more fun.

kung fu panda

your first movie was kung fu panda. an animated film with the voice talents of jack black as the lead character. we had intended to take you to a movie titled wall-e as your first movie, but we were in seattle and you were going a little crazy in the hotel room. so i took you to see the movie and mom and tyler went for a walk and chinese food.

actually

the other day you amazed me with your grasp of language. you wanted me to play cars with you in your room. as we entered your room you started looking for cars and trucks. you handed me red toy car, and then for some reason only known to you, you changed your mind and said “actually daddy, you take this truck.” I was actually impressed that you (only 3 years old) understood the context of using the word actually.

toilet training

so this posting might be embarrassing. the toilet training is going well. there are the usual accidents, but you’ve got the hang of it. well done jack. it’s just one of those life skills you need to master.
