with all that has happened to jack today he still remains cheerful and smiley. the day started off around 4am when kelly awoke to find that jack had spit up (that’s baby-speak for vomited, puked, blow chunks, etc.). we called that doctor just to be safe. the nurse said he seemed fine but just to keep an eye on him for the day. we did. and he was fine until later that morning around 10am when he wiped-out while trying to push himself up on a plastic container. fell right on his forehead. how do i know it was bad? to those of you without kids or who have never experienced a child in pain the sign of real pain is when the kid starts to cry (eyes squinting, mouth wide open. stiff arms) and nothing comes out of his mouth for a few seconds. ouch! it woke up kelly from her nap that she was enjoying upstairs. there’s nothing like a hug from mom to ease the pain. the afternoon was pretty uneventful until around 6:30pm when kelly and i were eating dinner and jack was playing in the kitchen. he crawled into the bathroom doorway and let out a cry that signified that something was not right again. as kelly stood up to get a closer look she noticed a bee carcass lying on the bathroom floor. the bee had stung jack in the hand. it got a little puffy so we decided to give him a bath to settle him down and now he’s back to being content playing in the livingroom with the train set that cousin tanner sent him. thanks tanner. another day almost over. thousands more to go.
T-Rex jack
remember that scene in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex escapes and starts attacking the vehicles with the kids in it. Dr. Grant tells them not to move becuase the T-Rex’s vision is based on movement. okay, maybe only i remember that because it’s one of my favorite sci-fi movies. it’s killer in surround sound. anyway, we had a T-Rex jack moment the other day. Kelly, jack and i had taken a walk around the neighborhood. jack fell asleep during the walk (why else would we go for a walk in the first place) and was sound asleep as kelly and i were talking in the livingroom. jack still in his stroller sat straight up, look right at kelly and at this point we looked at each other, didn’t move, and looked back at jack, and then fell back asleep. so infants have the vision of a T-Rex. the more still you are in their presence the more they will sleep.
of course the other bit of dialogue in that movie that pertains to children occurs right before the T-Rex escapes when the lawyer tells one of the kids to put down the binoculars because they are heavy thus expensive. the more jack weighs the more expensive he gets. curious. the things you learn from the movies.
henry
much to kelly’s excitement jack has made a friend at day care. of course the expression of friendship between a 7 month old and a 9 month old is taking toys from each other repeatedly. maybe the occasional sticking each other fingers in each other’s mouths. but the true sign of friendship is knowing that each of you have a dirty diaper and being okay with it.
september absence
you may have noticed that there weren’t many entries for the month of september. the reason, see the september 2 entry. kelly, jack and i, mostly kelly and i have been sick for the entire month. at the moment i’ve got something in my lungs. the joys of parenthood continue.
daycare
jack finished his first week of daycare today. he’s only in three days a week, but as we discovered that was enough for his parents to worry about him. many of the other infants are about to phase out and move into the toddler room so jack looks really small amongst all these kids that can walk. reagrdless, he still maintains his wonderful personality. we also discovered that barely three days of daycare was enough for jack to pick up a cold from another snotty-faced kid and pass it along to his parents. please pass the tissues and cold medicine. thanks, snotty-faced classmate of jack.
awhile back i think i mentioned that we needed to by another car. well, yesterday we made the full transition and bought another carseat base. two cars, two carseat bases for jack. dad drops him off in the morning in the CRV and mom picks him up in the afternoon in the Civic. also on the target run was a baby gate, a bathtub toy organizer in the shape of a duck of course, and electrical outlet covers. the baby-proofing has begun.
