henry visits

jack’s friend henry from daycare came over today for a visit. of course his parents, bruce and dana, came along too since henry can’t drive. he’s only 14 months old. it was like a first date for the parents. kind of weird. our kids really like playing with each other all day at daycare, but what if the parents don’t play well together. fortunately that wasn’t the case. bruce and dana were great. we just sat eating bagels and talking about our kids. wow, do i sound like a parent. we talked about their development, what they’re eating, the people who take care of them at Portercare and our jobs. jack and henry were non-stop the entire time. okay henry stopped a little, but not jack. it was fun to watch jack play with another child his age.

sick rant

i’m sick and tired of being sick and tired all of the time. is this parenthood? i’m sick of my son being sick. i’m sick of my wife being sick. i’m especially sick of the cat being sick, but that started years before jack came along. i’ve had a sore throat, an upset stomach, muscle aches, headaches, the flu, a cold, constant sneezing and coughing, and i’ve managed to give and get it from everybody around me. uncle sean (jack’s uncle) keeps saying it will get better and our immune systems will be so much stronger after this first year. i sure hope so. only a few more weeks until one year.

happy new year

welcome to 2006 jack. things to look forward to. your first birthday. dad’s 36th birthday. mom’s late thirty something birthday. an end to the war in iraq. bigger pieces of food. not only walking more, but running. words. a new season of baseball (next year is here). the possibility of a new address. a third tooth. lower gas prices. a new scott mccloud book. ice cream. the 5th season of 24. real shoes. only 15 years until you can legally drive a car. a new room at daycare. stage 4 diapers. stage 4 baby food. a stronger immune system for all. one year check up. more sleep.

jack’s logic

at ten months of age jack has plenty of toys to stimulate his little brain. toys that make noise (thanks nona), toys that jack has found a way to make noise with them, toys that are books (when he starts reading then they’ll be just books), toys that are soft and cute, toys that are soft and menacing (thanks ken for the alien), and toys that require jack to think, which brings me to the subject of this entry. amongst jack’s toys there is this little yellow container filled with plastics blocks of different shapes. circle, square, triangle, and star. the lid to this container has holes that match the shapes of the blocks. it’s suppose to teach kids about shapes by putting the blocks into the container through the shape holes. jack has a different approach. at first he attempts to put the blocks through the holes. when that doesn’t work jack’s solution is to remove the lid, put the blocks in the container, and put the lid back on the container. there’s more than one solution to a problem.

box pushing

i’m a little late on this entry. awhile ago aunt michele sent jack a big box of tanner’s old clothes. kelly and i loved the clothes. jack loved the box. he started crawling over to it push himself up on the box and then push it around the livingroom. box pushing video to come. other recent developments are that jack likes to climb stairs, help load and unload the dishwasher, empty the cat food dish, eat cat food, stand over the floor vent as air blows into his face, eat cat food, eat anything off the floor, watch himself on the video camera, remove fruits and vegetables from the crisper, pulls table-top lamps over on top of himself, eat cat food, stand in the bathtub, grab noses, grab eyeglasses, empty mom’s purse, push dad’s buttons, eat cat food, and eat cat food.
